All non-Algerians need to apply for a visa to enter Algeria. There are exceptions for some nationals of foreign countries, listed below, who are exempted from visas:
All Nationals from :Libya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Seychelles, Tunisia.
The Consulate General of Algeria in London will process visa applications made by applicants residing in the UK only. Others foreign citizens must provide "proof of residency in the UK". Regardless of their age, kids traveling with their parents need a visa.
British passport holders residing abroad must apply for their visa to Algeria at the Algerian Embassy or Consulate accredited in the country of their actual residence
Required documents
Applicants for an entry visa to Algeria must provide the documents detailed below

Tourist visa
- Two (02) application form duly completed, dated, and signed by the applicant. Applications with missing information will be delayed or rejected.
- Two (02) recent passport-size photographs to be affixed on each application form. Please write the first and last names of applicants in pencil on the back of the photos.
- The original passport, valid for at least 06 months and contains at least two (02) blank pages for a visa to be issued.
- Two (02) sets of copies of all the pages of the passport.
- Travel insurance is not required for British and Irish citizens (please see travel insurance for more details)
- Invitation letter "Accommodation certificate" duly certified by the local authorities in Algeria (town hall) bearing the name and address of the person inviting you and their relationship to you or, when applicable, an official invitation with itinerary from a travel agency in Algeria or a confirmation of a hotel booking.
- "Letter of employment" or "evidence of activity or income".
- For children under 18, a copy of their "birth certificate" is required when applying for a visa, as well as a"Parental Authorisation"
- Visa fees paid in GB Pound only by cash or postal order when lodged at the Consulate (no cheque, no debit or credit card) and only by postal order made payable to "The Algerian Consulate" when sent by post.
- Non-British citizens must provide proof of residence in the UK.

Business visa (short stay)
- Two (02) application form duly completed, dated and signed by the applicant. Applications with missing information will be delayed or rejected.
- Two (02) recent passport size photographs to be affixed on each application form. Please write first and last names of applicant in pencil on back of photos.
- The original passport valid for at least 06 months and contain at least two (02) blank pages for visa to be issued.
- Two (02) sets of copies of all the pages of the passport.
- "Letter of the employer in the UK or Ireland" stating the position held by the applicant and the purpose of the visit.
- "Letter of invitation" from the sponsoring company or institution in Algeria.
- Visa fees paid in GB Pound only by cash or postal order when lodged at the Consulate (no cheque, no debit or credit card) and only by postal order (please write your name at the back) made payable to "The Algerian Consulate" when sent by post

Work visa
- Two (02) application form duly completed, dated and signed by the applicant. Applications with missing information will be delayed or rejected.
- Two (02) recent passport size photographs to be affixed on each application form. Please write first and last names of applicant in pencil on back of photos.
- The original passport valid for at least 06 months and contain at least two (02) blank pages for visa to be issued.
- Two (02) sets of copies of all the pages of the passport.
- Copy of the "work contract" or "employment letter".
- "Temporary work permit" issued by the Algerian authorities, labour office of the Wilaya where the applicant will be working.
- "letter of repatriation" signed by the employer and sealed by the labour office of the Wilaya where the applicant will be working.
- Visa fees paid in GB Pound only by cash or postal order when lodged at the Consulate (no cheque, no debit or credit card) and only by postal order (please write your name at the back) made payable to "The Algerian Consulate" when sent by post.

Temporary work visa
- Two (02) application form duly completed, dated, and signed by the applicant. Applications with missing information will be delayed or rejected.
- Two (02) recent passport-size photographs to be affixed on each application form. Please write the first and last names of applicants in pencil on the back of the photos.
- The original passport valid for at least 06 months and contain at least two (02) blank pages for a visa to be issued.
- Two (02) sets of copies of all the pages of the passport.
- Copy of the "work contract" which does not exceed 90 days signed by the employer in Algeria,
- "Temporary work permit" delivered by the Ministry of Labour, Department of Labour at the Wilaya where the employer is based.
- "Letter of the employer in the UK or Ireland" stating the position held by the applicant and the purpose of the visit.
- A "letter of repatriation" issued by the relevant services signed by the employer and sealed by the labor office of the Wilaya where the applicant will be working, in which the employer certifies to undertake full financial responsibilities for repatriation of their foreign workers upon completion of their work contract.
- Visa fees paid in GB Pound only by cash or postal order when lodged at the Consulate (no cheque, no debit or credit card) and only by postal order (please write your name at the back) made payable to "The Algerian Consulate" when sent by post
A temporary work visa can also be issued to a foreigner holder "an assistance contract or provision of services" concluded by itself or his employer organization in the UK or Ireland with a company or organization carrying an activity in Algeria.

Family visa for spouse of an Algerian citizen
- Two (02) application form duly completed, dated and signed by the applicant. Applications with missing information will be delayed or rejected.
- Two (02) recent passport size photographs to be affixed on each application form. Please write first and last names of applicants in pencil on the back of the photos.
- The original passport valid for at least 06 months and contain at least two (02) blank pages for visa to be issued.
- Two (02) sets of copies of all the pages of the passport.
- Travel insurance is not required for British and Irish citizens (please see travel insurance for more details)
- Copy of the valid "consulate registration card" of his/her spouse.
- If the spouse is not registered at the Algerian Consulate in London, the applicant should provide an "accommodation certificate" duly certified by the local authorities (town hall) in Algeria including the name and address of the family member inviting the applicant and their relationship to him.
- Copy of the "marriage certificate" issued by the register office or a copy of "the Algerian family book".

Family visa for children of an Algerian citizen
- Two (02) application form duly completed, dated, and signed by the applicant. Applications with missing information will be delayed or rejected.
- Two (02) recent passport-size photographs to be affixed on each application form. Please write first and last names of applicant in pencil on back of photos.
- The original passport valid for at least 06 months and contain at least two (02) blank pages for visa to be issued.
- Two (02) sets of copies of all the pages of the passport.
- Travel insurance is not required for British and Irish citizens (please see travel insurance for more details)
- Copy of the valid "consulate registration card" of the Algerian parent.
If the parent is not registered at the Algerian Consulate in London, the applicant should provide an "accommodation certificate" duly certified by the local authorities (town hall) in Algeria including the name and address of the family member inviting the applicant and their relationship to him.
- Copy of their "birth certificate"
- For children under 18, a"Parental Authorisation " to be signed by the legal guardian of the Child at The Consulate General when lodging his visa application or a notarised Parental Authorisation if send by post

Cultural visa
This type of visa is issued to people invited to take part in a cultural, scientific, social or sports events.
- Two (02) application form duly completed, dated and signed by the applicant. Applications with missing information will be delayed or rejected.
- Two (02) recent passport size photographs to be affixed on each application form. Please write first and last names of applicant in pencil on back of photos.
- The original passport valid for at least 06 months and contain at least two (02) blank pages for visa to be issued.
- Two (02) sets of copies of all the pages of the passport.
- "A letter of invitation" from the event organizer
- "Employment letter" or "proof of activity"
- Travel insurance is not required for British and Irish citizens (please see travel insurance for more details)
- Visa fees paid in GB Pound only by cash or postal order when lodged at the Consulate (no cheque, no debit or credit card) and only by postal order (please write your name at the back) made payable to "The Algerian Consulate" when sent by post
Student visa
- Two (02) application form duly completed, dated and signed by the applicant. Applications with missing information will be delayed or rejected.
- Two (02) recent passport size photographs to be affixed on each application form. Please write first and last names of applicant in pencil on back of photos.
- The original passport valid for at least 06 months and contain at least two (02) blank pages for visa to be issued.
- Two (02) sets of copies of all the pages of the passport.
- Confirmation of enrolment.
- Evidence of payment of tuition fees.
- Evidence of sufficient funds for the studies and accommodation.
- Travel insurance is not required for British and Irish citizens (please see travel insurance for more details)

Medical visa
-Two (02) application form duly completed, dated and signed by the applicant. Applications with missing information will be delayed or rejected.
-Two (02) recent passport size photographs to be affixed on each application form. Please write first and last names of applicant in pencil on back of photos.
-The original passport valid for at least 06 months and contain at least two (02) blank pages for visa to be issued.
-Two (02) sets of copies of all the pages of the passport.
-Medical certificate.
-A letter of confirmation from the hospital or health care centre.
-Evidence of payment of fees.

Travel insurance is not required for British and Irish citizens.
The travel insurance is mandatory for the citizens of the following countries :
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, F.Y.R. of Macedonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands (The), New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Romania.
The day of insurance is the first day of validity of the visa.
Visa fees:
Visa fees vary according to the visa type, duration of stay, number of entries (single or multiple), and the nationality of the applicant:
- for British passport holders: all types of visa: 85 GBP, except for work and temporary work visa: 270 GBP, transit visa: 60 GBP
- Irish passport holders residing in the UK: for single entry visa 60 GBP, for multiple entries visa: 100 GBP.

Fees must be paid in GB Pound only.
The visa fees are paid only by cash or postal order when lodged at the Consulate General (no cheque, no debit or credit card) and only by postal order (please write your name at the back) made payable to "The Algerian Consulate General" when sent by post (no cash no cheque otherwise the application will be rejected). Do not send cash by post.
Note: Please note that visa fees are non-refundable if your visa application is denied or canceled.
Applicants must lodge their applications in person or by couriers at the Consulate General between 9:30 am - 01:00 pm, Tuesday to Saturday (no appointment needed). Visa applications can also be made by post.

Applicants by post must send a prepaid self-addressed special delivery envelope for returning the passport(s).
Note: any incomplete application, including the form, will be either rejected if lodged in person at the Consulate General or returned to the sender if made by post.
Processing time:
The processing time may vary according to the nationality of the applicant and the visa type. However, visas submitted in person are generally issued within 10 working days. For the applications sent by post, the processing time is at least 15 working days.
During certain periods of the year (summer holidays, New Year's holidays, Ramadhan, Eid celebrations), the processing time may be extended by 5 more working days for each period indicated above. This is due to the high volume of applications being processed.
The processing of an application may be delayed if prior agreement by Algerian authorities is required.
The Consulate General reserves the right to request additional documentation from applicants.
The Consulate General has no express service to process applications merely due to planned travel date, the Consulate General advise also not to buy non-refundable or non-flexible ticket until the visa is issued.
The responsibility for any financial loss occurred lies with the applicant(s).
The date of departure does not affect the processing time of the visa.
For applications sent by post, the processing time starts only when the application is received by our office.
The Consulate General is not responsible for delays due to postal services. Please take note of the code bar number of your recorded envelope to be able to track your returned mail.
Return of passports:
Applicants may pick up their passports at the Consulate General between 9:30 am - 1:00 pm Tuesday to Saturday (please see Opening hours & holidays page for more details) or send a "prepaid self-addressed special delivery envelope".
The Consulate General is not responsible for the loss or delays of documents by the post office or other visa services.
Period of stay (durée de séjour):
Single entry visa: you can stay the whole granted period (durée du séjour) consecutively.
Multiple entry visa: you can stay the whole granted period (durée du séjour) consecutively or you can stay multiple times deducting the number of days you have stayed each time you enter Algeria.
Visitors must make travel arrangements to Algeria based on the date of entry indicated on their visa. Visitors must not arrive in Algeria before that date.
Visitors must leave Algeria before the expiry date shown on the top right-hand corner on the visa sticker.
The maximum period of effective stay in Algeria is 180 days per year.
